2018 is a special thematic edition of Akrai
Residency: we accept submissions with project proposals that reflect upon the
theme of Tempo Lento (Slow Time) in any possible interpretation, and in any disciplines we offer residencies for.
ELIGIBILITY: Application for the
2018 Edition is open to the following disciplines:
Critical Writing, Creative Writing, Culinary Art, Dance, Film, Music, Sound Art, Theater and
Visual Arts. Interested individuals
and teams must have been professionally active in their fields for at
least the past 3 years as demonstrated in their resumes. We welcome
applications from any country in the world. We encourage
interdisciplinary team applications.
FELLOWSHIPS: An Akrai Residency
Fellowship comprises private accommodation
in a shared apartment in the historical center of the town of Palazzolo Acreide, use of a private studio in a historical building, a communal meal a day and assistance
for projects to be developed during the
residency that will be presented to the public on Saturday August 25, 2018 in Palazzolo Acreide at an event free and open to the public. Invited participants are expected to be in residency
for the entire duration of the program.
APPLICATION FEE: Akrai Residency
charges an admin fee of US$15.00 to
apply for the program. This fee helps us infringe rising costs of maintaining
an online portal that allows us to accept applications from all over the world
in six distinct disciplines and put together 6 distinct review panels to select
the most interesting and compelling projects for the program.
WHAT TO UPLOAD: We require the following four items:
have them ready before starting our online submission.
1. Your Resume/Curriculum Vitae. Either a PDF or Word Document.
2. Documentation of your work. Depending on your practice, you can submit either images, links to video or audio files, or text based files, or a combination of all of the above.
SUBMIT EITHER ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
IMAGE
BASED WORK:
Eight (8) JPEG images, at 72 DPI resolution, maximum file size for each
image submitted: 1 MB. Images must be numbered as in the image list. (See item
no.3)
Important: we can only accept jpegs. Please do not submit: Powerpoint presentations, PDF, TIFF, Gif or PSD files.
VIDEO
OR AUDIO WORK:
Links to three video or audio excerpts. Please make sure to mark which
3-minutes of each piece you would like the jury to review. The jury will be
required to watch/hear 3 minutes for each piece; it is at their discretion
whether they want to see/hear more.
TEXT
BASED WORK:
If you work with words in a non-performative manner, please submit either a pdf
or word doc of up to three (3) excerpts of your recent work. Each excerpt
should not exceed 10 pages each and cannot be from the same work.
Upload the three excerpts individually; either a PDF or word document files.
IF YOU WANT TO SUBMIT A MIX OF IMAGES, VIDEOS AND/OR TEXT, SELECT THE IMAGE BASED OPTION AND ADD LINKS TO VIDEOS AND TEXT IN THE DESCRIPTION DOCUMENT.
3. A Word document or PDF file of one page only, with a description of the work submitted. Please submit DO NOT use font size smaller than 11.
Please prepare this document as a numbered list of the work you submitted. Specify the following:
Creative Writing: title, length of original piece, year and brief synopsis.
Chefs: three original recipes. It is also possible to send links to videos.
Dance: dancer(s), choreographer(s), length of original piece, year.
Music: instrument(s), performer(s), composer, length of original piece, year.
Theater: actor(s), director(s), screenwriter(s), set designer(s) length of original piece, year.
Arts: title, year, size, medium and brief synopsis.
If needed, a brief (2-3 sentences) description can be included for each piece submitted.
4. Project proposal. Once you start your uploading your online application, you will be asked to enter a cover letter. Outline your project proposal in the cover letter: what you plan to do at the residency (200 words maximum).
Please note: the cover letter/project proposal is fundamental for the jury to make an assessment of the validity of your proposed project. Akrai Residency is a thematic and project-oriented residency. The two fundamental criteria for selection are excellence in your discipline as well as strength of the proposed project based on the context of the residency.
We welcome applications from interdisciplinary teams-see below for specific guidelines.
TEAM OR JOINT APPLICATIONS: We welcome applications from teams or joint applications from individuals who want to submit a joint project but they usually do not work together. In the case of a team that already has a history of projects together, please upload only one application with documentation of work done together only. In the case of a one-time joint project, please upload individual applications with documentation of individual work, making sure to mark on the cover letter/project proposal each of the names of the candidates proposing the joint application. This portion of the application should be identical for all applications in the joint proposal.
